We all want to remain youthful looking, and the massive anti-aging skin care industry is betting on it.
Because there are so many anti-aging skin care companies around today, there are just as many myths associated with anti-aging skin care. Often times, we are so bombarded with claims from anti-aging skin care companies that we simply don’t know which anti-aging skin care treatments to try, and which ones to leave in the dust.
With that said, there are four anti-aging skin care myths that you should know before you begin your search for the best anti-aging skin care products and treatments:
1. MYTH: Your diet and sleep habits do not affect your skin.
FACT: Your diet and your sleep patterns (in particular, how much sleep you are getting every night) can play a big part in the health of your skin. There is no better way to make you look youthful than to eat a healthy diet rich in vitamins and minerals and to get a great night’s sleep. Remember: your skin is the largest organ in your body, and the way you treat your body will have a direct effect on the health of your skin.
2. MYTH: Only the most expensive anti-aging skin care products will help you look more youthful.
FACT: The reality is that proper cleansing and moisturizing are the cornerstones of youthful-looking skin. There are many anti-aging skin care products that are worth every penny, but there are just as many that are not. Bottom line: don’t choose an anti-aging skin care product simply because of the elevated price tag.
3. MYTH: Sunscreen should only be applied when you plan on spending a lot of time in the sun.
FACT: Most of the damage to our skin is caused by daily exposure. In other words, just because you aren’t lying the sun doesn’t mean that your skin isn’t being exposed to the aging effects of the sun’s ultraviolet ray. Bottom line: in order to fully protect your skin from the aging effects of the sun you must apply sunscreen every day, without exception.
4. MYTH: Anti-aging skin care products can reverse signs of aging.
FACT: Anti-aging skin care products may help prevent wrinkles, but they can’t erase wrinkles that are already present. Many anti-aging skin care products, however, are quite effective at reducing the signs of wrinkles; just don’t expect them to erase them for good.
